Important Notice, Internet Home Businesses, Classic Case of Doing What Was Urgent, Not Important
I have been preaching to thousands of Internet Home Businesses over the years and one of my messages has been, get a plan, work your plan, and most importantly, do what is important to you, not was is urgent. The difference is, what is important to you will be set out in your plan, your Agenda, you will have Time Activated what is important in your Day Planner and you will be set to go. On the other hand, urgent things are ones that are usually tossed at you by other people and circumstances that crop up at the last moment, all factors that will destroy your effectiveness and productivity. I also say that Time Management is not a destination, but a journey. Here is why.
Yesterday, in real time, February 3rd, 2010, I got up at the regular time, had my Agenda planned out, everything was in place to have a productive day. Then I made my first mistake, I am embarrassed to admit it, but I did what I preach, beg ask and conj ole the members on my site, not to do, www.powertimesystem.com, I checked my email!!! For those who know me and read my material, this is mistake number one. I have set up my days so my Power Hours, which for me, are the hours between 6:00 and 9:00, are set up and dedicated to doing my key number one A Priorities, posting on my 3 blogs.
I have done a number of posts lately about this important issue . Getting your number one a Priorities done on a daily basis has a massive positive impact on what happens daily and most importantly, how you feel about yourself and the results you get each day. Getting these critical priorities accomplished, actually the ONE key Priority accomplished, and usually, you will be golden for the day. Internet Home Businesses require a firm grasp of Proper Time Management to be successful. This is one of those key elements we need to have in place if any of us expect to be successful.
The reason checking your emails, first thing in the morning is a monster mistake is that you are literally begging to be thrown off your Agenda of important task to do, and be shunted off into doing what is urgent. That is exactly what happened to me yesterday morning. Instead of driving my own Agenda, doing what was important to me, I read my emails and responded to what other people thought I should be doing, what was urgent to them. I was a dead duck, by my own choice I might add. This next part is important to listen to. What I ended up doing, for almost the whole day was something that I had been dealing with for the past week, it was important and urgent, things can be both and it was something that I was going to deal with yesterday, but it was not my number one A Priority, and that is the issue.
Dealing with thousands of Internet Home Businesses owners has taught me this, how you perceive and feel about yourself during the day, and especially at the end of it, greatly impacts your performance, that day as well as the ensuing days. In my case, almost from the get go, when I knew I had made a mistake in checking my emails, and further dug myself a hole by getting thrown off my Agenda, by my own choice, my day went from bad to worse. It put me in a bad mood, I do not light being stupid, and there I was , being really stupid, I knew it and it festered all day long. I was working on activities, but I really wanted to get my blog posts done, a bad mix of stress, anxiety and just being angry with myself. Does that sound like a conducive state to be in to get things done, be productive and have a good time doing it?
Proper Time Management is all about making us happier, more productive, allowing us to do more of the things we want in life. Proper Time Management is not some sort of academic exercise that is separate from our day to day lives, its the real deal and its what separates us from getting what we want to get out of life and not getting what we ant out of life. It’s that simple. Simple, but not easy. Have a great day.
